Psalm 1:1-2

I have been listening to a study on the book of Psalms with Chuck Missler the last several weeks and am enjoying diving deeper into them. I have always considered them my most treasured of all the Word. I would like to get into them even deeper still. Seems no matter how many times we get into them, there is always more to discover.

-------------------------------------
Blessed is the man
        Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
        Nor stands in the path of sinners,
        Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
        And in His law he meditates day and night.
Psalm 1:1-2

By observing the progression of the ungodly we can draw out the way our own godly lives should be lived. Everything starts out with a walk, either by worldly wisdom or heavenly. We must walk in the way that opposes the wisdom of the world and its selfish desires. Also our walk must never be solitary. Not only are we told to walk on the path the Lord has laid before us, we are also to walk with one another and help each other along the way. Every turn of the road is much easier to handle when there are others to go along your side.

Standing is the next step for the pattern man will follow. It is the middle ground where there is no longer walking, but not quite sitting down in the way. This is where we begin to determine what ground we are on and what rules we should be following. What is right and what is wrong? The way of the ungodly may seem like the best and easiest, but in the end it leads to death.
Once we have sat down in the seat of the scornful, we have lost all sense of conscience and truth. Right and wrong become muddled because our hearts feel so immersed in what we are doing that it must be okay. This is the most dangerous place because our ears are turned away from the Lord and we have blinded our own eyes to Him.

In opposition to the way of the sinful is the place we are to remain, in the Word of the Lord. Is the Law of our Lord delightful to us? Do we study it daily, looking for the truth to hold on to with all of our hearts? The righteous who wish to remain steady with the Lord must keep the Word of God has a delight in all things and above all things. It is only then do we avoid the pitfalls of this world and ungodly counsel. Grabbing hold of a desire for the Word is far greater than anything.
